Welcome to the McCain GU BioBank

Formally known as the GU BioBank, our aim is to enhance future cancer research capabilities in the areas of genomics, proteomics and epidemiology.

Our program is based on collecting biospecimens at certain time points allowing for serialized collections throughout patient prognosis. Over 600,000 biospecimens have been stored to date from over 16,000 participants

UHN COVID-19 Updates

As per direction from UHN Leadership, the McCain GU BioBank is limiting our presence at our hospitals. Researchers may experience a slower than normal access to our biospecimens. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.

The McCain GU BioBank is constantly growing in sample size and cancer disease sites. With inception of GYN in 2011 and Thoracic in 2019, we aim to create a comprehensive Biospecimen & Data directory to aid in cutting-edge research.

The Quality Management program systematically monitors and evaluates all aspects of biobanking processes to improve the quality of specimen and data for long-term sustainability. Implementation of this will improve personnel proficiency, operational efficiency, effectiveness and adaptability in biobanking.
